Let‘s put on polka dot clothes and diminish people's prejudices

Polka Dot Day

| October 29th 2023

No person suffering from psoriasis or psoriatic arthritis should be left alone with their worries.

Which is why the registered association Revenium has decided to organize Polka Dot Day on the occasion of World Psoriasis Day, which this year falls on Sunday, October 29, 2023.

„We will be delighted if you join us in support of psoriasis patients by wearing polka dot clothes or accessories on this day. By taking action, we are letting our surroundings know that we are familiar with the facts about the disease and that we care about these people“, says the organizer of the event, a nurse and a member of the SPAE patient organization committee, Gabriela Doleželová.

Gabriela is an employee of the Jihlava hospital, where she, on top of treating patients with other health difficulties, works as a telephone support agent for psoriasis patients and their families through a service called „Sister(s) in Action“.

The purpose of this event is to inform the public on the nature of this chronic inflammatory autoimmune disease, which affects the whole organism. It aims to spread awareness about the disease which shows symptoms on the skin, but also affects nails and joints (psoriatic disease).
It is very important that the public knows that psoriasis is NOT CONTAGIOUS, and that it can be treated, even though it cannot be fully cured at this time.

  • We will present to you a special family of polka-dotted toy figures, whose purpose is to educate children on the subject of psoriasis. They explain that it is not contageous and that those who suffer from psoriasis still belong in their group of friends, just like anyone else.
  • With the help of the toy figures, we will support all children affected by the disease. 5 of these children will be chosen to go on a wellness retreat by the sea.
  • We are looking forward to getting in touch with you on our social media - we have a polka dot page on Facebook and Instagram!
  • 29 October is the day to celebrate Polka Dot Day. On city and village squares, playgrounds and schoolyards, come join hands and create one BIG HUMAN POLKA DOT – a circle of us, people with polka dots. Let’s make others aware we know well psoriasis is not an infectious disease!

Since last year, the legendary figure „Igracek“, manufactured by the company Efko, has been the main partner of Polka Dot Day. This year, they are supporting us with their family of polka-dotted figures. Moreover, our colleagues from Myjómi, an association of people with disabilities, have produced the iconic polka dot scarf as well as a collection of other polka dot patterned objects, including socks. We would also like to thank the SPAE patient organization and last but not least,  our friends from L’Oréal  for supporting the cause. The media partner of the event is our magazine Inspirante.cz.

„We are currently in touch with several medical facilities, hospitals, spas, non-profit and patient organizations and companies regarding possible cooperation. Naturally, we are also being joined by foreign patient organizations associating psoriatic patients“
Gabriela Doleželová reveals.

„Basically, it´s just about putting on any polka dot clothes on the given day and by doing that, showing that we´re familiar with basic facts about psoriasis,“ adds Hana Potměšilová, Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of the non-profit organization Revenium.
